France Sarkis

Watercolour on Canvas

2009

Having always painted in acrylic on stretched canvas, France stretched raw cotton herself so she could paint in watercolour on canvas, a rare approach that keeps the transparency of the medium. Colours bloom and collide on the wet surface; the forms are then redrawn with a tube of stained-glass outliner. The series was first shown in the solo exhibition Abstracted at the Eleanor London Library in 2009.
